Strange May Not Sell
It is not a bad thing to personalize your home to reflect your interests, hobbies and personality; however, when you go to sell your home, it is important to remember that you need to make it easy for potential buyers to picture themselves living in your home. Simply changing the paint or avoiding unique permanent items are ways to help sell your home quickly.
1. Avoid unique swimming pools
Swimming pools are not an easy thing to change. If you plan on selling your home in the future, avoid shapes that are unique to your interests such as a guitar, heart or a foot. Always keep the shape simple.
2. Avoid murals or outrageous paint colors
Having an entire house painted with personalized murals or bright colors says, “work, work, work” to buyers. Many buyers are looking for move in ready homes; I am not saying you cannot express yourself on the walls in your home, but rather tone them down to neutral colors when you plan to sell.
3. Remove any unique or unusual furniture or décor
Because you love a piece of furniture or décor doesn’t mean everyone will. It is difficult for buyers to see past your furniture and décor and imagine living there. When you go to sell your home remove anything from the space that may make it difficult for buyers to see past.
